Enforcement First

Finally, we are beginning to see some sanity introduced into our immigration laws with our Presidents proposal for temporary work visas followed by some “get tough measures” proposed by some congressmen. However, we must not repeat the error of the 80’s when an amnesty program proved to be a dismal failure. Also S.1438 is a start but more teeth is required.

To avoid that calamity we need to examine how we can effectively police illegal entries as well as overstays. Perhaps we need to remove this responsibility from the INS where some twenty or so years ago they asked aliens to quit registering annually as advertised by TV announcements for they at that time were seven years behind recording the annual registrations. (My Canadian wife was so told) Obviously a sever problem in that agency with either under funding or management or some combination of both.

Thus, one quick way to get a hold of the illegal stays & entries is to offer a bounty to licensed bounty hunters who would be supervised by the US Marshals office for lets say $500 per head. Public service announcements could be televised by the US Marshal offices requesting tips from the pubic. An incentive would be an award of a refundable $100 income tax credit for each nabbed violators. How else can we make a dent in reducing the estimated 11 million currently in our midst?

Another way would be to conscript any caught illegals (both male & female regardless of age) into special units of our military to serve for 4 years at home or abroad doing tasks that befit their skill levels. They could be educated at some level to make them better citizens of their home countries upon termination of service. Upon completion of their 4 year conscription they would be graded on a numeric graded from zero to 99 with the cream of the crop awarded with good references for fast track citizenship if they still seek opportunities in the US. Deportation for non-honorable duty acceptance would place them on a non-acceptable database file with iris scans and digitized fingerprints. Perhaps national border respect could be gained by these conscripted illegals if they were assigned to an Iraqi border contingent. Every 21 feet of that border the conscripted sentry would watch for unauthorized entry into Iraq. This would keep some 1.7 million busy on 24-7 shifts of 56 hour per week. If the illegals entries would dropped drastically the sentry force perhaps could then be filled by opening our prisons & releasing those druggies that are now doing nothing!

Large signs on the boarder in Spanish should forewarn the new arrivals about their upcoming four year commitment. Perhaps Fox will have to rewrite his pamphlets that now encourage this illegal activity when he realizes that we do not have an open border

I still think the answer to this problem is to hit the employers who hire illegals with huge fines that double with each offense. If the jobs weren't available they won't come. Not to mention that from an enforcement standpoint, I think targeting the employers would be much easier.

Doubling the fines will help, however, i don't think that they are all employed with companies that can afford a personnel dept to check out what is a good document vs a phony iDt. As I undertand it it is very easy to get a fake social security card and now many states want to give drivers licenses on demand. Also many work by the day or belong to gangs and don't work. Thus a complete program has to be adopted.

You don't see any problems with sicking bounty hunters on a particular ethnicity? Should anyone who may possibly "not belong here" carry identifying documents at all times or face being arrested/ abducted (albeit temporarily)?

This was suggested above:

" hit the employers who hire illegals with huge fines that double with each offense."

Who is going to do the "dirty jobs", you?

This line right here is a HUGE part of our problem! Thinking like this will never help us solve the problem. On the otherhand...

Thinking like this "will" help! If the illegals aren't there to fill those jobs employers would have to start paying a better wage to entice others to fill the jobs. But this by itself won't fix it either.

Thank you J B I see no problem of sicking the bounty hunters, However i would expect them to be a little more professional & diplomatic while under the guidance of US marshalls' office. With my Irish name & slight irish broag I find recently while flying that my name is on the watch list. Perhaps some known IRA member is being watched. I find this aggrivating but realize that general public's security is more important than my feelings.

Little- whip , I like your style and I tried to find your article but haven't figured out all the shortcuts of getting around the JoeUser site yet. However I believe the solders concern you alluded to had to do with a full intergration of conscrips in to all units. Where I see units that are specialized with limited task such as sentry duty. The thought of serving is such unimaginable units alone might dissuade many form crossing the boarder.

Yes, build that prison on the boarder, but how big! Even if we nabbed one percent it would take 110 facilities to house 1ooo each and the other 10mm illigals would see that there chances are 1 out of a hundred. Desparate people would probably love those odds.

You are right on about the difficuly of trying to work threw the red tape that INS has caused, That is why I think they should be all fired and start a whole new program & appoach.

Now that (L-whips' Building a secure border wall/ jail) is a suggestion that has great merit!. and the bounty hunters could start grabbing those alreaady here. I don't think it would take that long but the sooner we get started the better.Az has lots of rock so material cost should be next to nothing.
